Archipelager Hour

Archipelager Hour, with Robin Jenkinson & Ryan Dentry

Fridays at 5pm, rebroadcast Wednesdays at 10am

Archipelagers are villagers who live and love across the islands, or the archipelago. In this show, we celebrate people, places and ideas from across the Southern Gulf Islands, and beyond. Our focus is on commonalities and innovation, sharing our collective stories that reflect strong communities and inter-species collaboration.

Episodes include field recordings, interviews, travel reflections, and community updates — from clam gardens to coffee cooperatives, from historic figures to future bicycle paths.

Being an Islander doesn't have to be isolating -- it can be a shared experience. We highlight relationships, knowledge, and ecological stewardship across the isles. We share voices from throughout the Archipelago as a contribution to great community radio on CHIR.FM, the "Voice of the Gulf Islands."

Robin is a Salt Spring Island writer, environmental educator, mom, and community organizer working across the Southern Gulf Islands. She collaborates with schools, conservation groups, local institutions, and Indigenous knowledge holders to support outdoor learning, ecological restoration, and active transportation initiatives. In her Archipelager substack, she explores the relationships between people and place.

Ryan lived on Saturna Island for the past 13 years and is a dad, an internet technician, plumber, and longtime community radio enthusiast. His interests orbit around practical problem-solving and creative storytelling. He brings a grounded, curious perspective to radio conversations. When he isn’t on air, he can usually be found fermenting food, alchemizing salt from the sea, fixing something or helping a neighbour.
